MISSION NUTRITION* Launches New Adventures in Learning
To Teach Kids Healthy Living Habits
|
TORONTO, October 8, 2003 - This school year, entertaining new space themed MISSION NUTRITION* resources will make it easier for teachers to capture students' interest in learning lifelong healthy living habits. Developed by Canadian Dietitians, MISSION NUTRITION* is a fun and easy way to teach kids about healthy eating, physical activity and positive self-esteem.
MISSION NUTRITION* supports teachers with curriculum-based lesson plans and activities full of entertaining ways to explore healthy living habits with students. The newly-launched resources for Kindergarten to Grade 5 take students on exciting adventures with the intergalactic MISSION NUTRITION* team - CAPTAIN KIP*, GLUBBER* and HANDY-BOT*. These three characters from outer space have come from the farthest corners of the galaxy to learn more about Earthlings, our habits and how we grow and go. With their discoveries, students learn valuable life lessons as they succeed in their missions to eat well, be active and feel good about themselves.
Created with input from teachers and dietitians across Canada, these space-themed resources are the most recent addition to the MISSION NUTRITION* web site at www.missionnutrition.ca "Educators, health professionals and parents are encouraged to visit the web site for credible information on healthy eating, active living and building positive self-esteem in children aged 5 to 14 years," says Helen Haresign, Vice President of Development for Dietitians of Canada. "Leading experts in child and adolescent nutrition, physical activity, psychology and health education contributed to developing the website."
MISSION NUTRITION* is the result of an ongoing collaboration between Dietitians of Canada and the Team of Registered Dietitians at Kellogg Canada. The MISSION NUTRITION* program is a bilingual educational initiative offering fun, easy to use, curriculum-based resources for grades one through eight. Free resources can be accessed online at www.missionnutrition.ca or by calling 1-888-453-6374.
